Too tired
It is midnight. I feel tired. Very tired. Too tired to work on anything. No desire to watch a movie, no wish to play anything nor read comics. But i still can't sleep. I HATE when this happens.
So i sit here, staring at this post, opening other pages in tabs then closing them because i really dont want to read them, then back to this. I have already tried sleeping, and have been staring at my ceiling for an hour. Its white. And the bed is uncomfortable, no matter to which side i turn.
I GIT it!
I've been trying to understand GIT. But every GUI interface i've tried for it have, in my opinion, been totally crap. Mostly because they respond with error messages in "command line", with command arguments which doesn't exist in the GUI interface. This is stupid. So instead i had to learn GIT command line instead. And so far i prefer it that way. My first obstacle was how to get GIT Bash to know where to find my key. Instead of having to run Putty's Pageant application in the background, i could just generate a key in command line and it did copy it to the correct folder.
Fringe cases
Fringe get better and better by every episode. I loved the latest episode, and how the characters are able to act out the alternative versions of "themselves". And the new cast member (Agent Lincoln Lee played by Seth Gabel) is currently my favorite character. I cross my fingers they will renew it for another season, but i doubt it. Just in case anyone who could decide wether to continue this show should ever stumble upon my blog.... Renew it!
More programming means more fun!
This is great! Now i'm using more than half of my day at work looking at code! Of course a lot of this takes time because i'm not a particularly fast coder yet. A lot of time is taken up with searching for answers any experienced programmer could have answered in less than 5. But i'm learning.
The few last weeks i've touched asp.net, OAuth2, our company's public API, HttpWebRequest, a lot of javascript and HTML5 video playback and flash video playback, and Facebook apps.
At home i'm working on a Drupal website for muffensmedia.com, creating a custom theme and a few other features.
All and all i'm having fun. :)
How to use HttpWebRequest in C#
The HttpWebRequest in C# can be really useful. With it, you can get the latest weather in to your application, or your choice of news, or any info you want from the internet. Or post info to a server on the web. One useful idea is to make a game which use HttpWebRequest to post its score to your webserver. I can show you how to do the serverside later, this time i'm going to show you how to use HttpWebRequest.
The HTTP protocol
To understand how to use HttpWebRequest, you will have to understand how a client (your webbrowser) ask a server (the webpage) for information. You will have to understand the HTTP protocol.
First update in a while
Never been happy about the design of my blog. Tried unsuccessfully a few redesigns, and have lately experimentet with html5 and responsive design. The designs work nicely, but look like shite. Really, i am no designer. So all and all, i'll think i keep this theme for a while longer. Done a few improvements on the blog, though. Image upload, added my logo, and a menu with only one category. Maybe i'll add one "About me" soon, but i don't expect anyone to hold their breaths.
Wake up
Woke up early today. Of all the minutes of this night, i woke up a humble minute before a friends misplaced cellphone alarm went off. And i'm awake! I wish i could wake up like that on a work-day, instead of having to slowly wake up, a process which takes up to 30 minutes!
Possible solution: The Sleeptracker Elite! I'll report my results.

Edit 20.10.2011: First night testing it. Didn't go well, because i barely slept. No use having an alarm wake me if i'm already awake. And the strap is a bit sweaty when wearing it.
Edit 24.10.2011: A success so far! It's easier to wake up in the morning, as the alarm always goes of when i'm almost awake (that happens oftener than i thought). If these results keep up the whole week, it will be the best 1000,- i've ever spent.
I'm converting to Maya
I've started using Maya instead of 3d Studio Max, and after 8 hours of tutorials from 3dBuzz: so far i am loving this 3d application. It is easier and it is more customizable, its faster and more precise, and a better (but messier) UI.

The only issue i've encountered so far is that Maya seems incapable of importing other 3d formats. By using plugins i managed to import *.FBX files, but right out of the box it only support native formats.
I've yet to set it up against the real challenge; character rigging, my great white whale. Character rigging was impossibly difficult in 3d Studio Max and is why my game project have been held up for more than a year. It was always an issue stopping me from continue, and soon i dreaded searching the web for why things was happening against all my logic. Like importing my animation and half my character suddenly moving the left leg 30 degrees forward. WHY?! It made me uninstall 3d Studio Max in a fit of rage. Hopefully Maya wont have these problems.
Wish me luck. :)
